After a long summer where the only moisture comes from fog, it is always exciting when the first rains arrive, usually sometime during October. The rain has a special, dusty smell. It is typically a light rain, brief, often followed by a rainbow. People come out just to walk in the rain, for the novelty of it.
The first rain this year fell on October 4. I immediately grabbed my camera and looked for a way to photograph rain. I found this to be challenging. I jumped in my car, and took this image of rain on the windshield. The flowers in my garden look like a Claude Monet painting. |
