Fog is the reason that Santa Cruz summers are so mild and pleasant. Fog is caused by interactions between warm air, and cool ocean currents. During July and August, 2 out of every 3 days generally see at least 1 hour of fog. Fog is most common during the morning or evening, and tends to burn off during the afternoon. This year, September was also very foggy. I enjoy photographing fog because of the way it diffuses light.
