A great variety of crops are grown in California's Central Coast region. The most important economically is strawberries, and I will devote a subsequent series to the cultivation of this crop. However, in this series I would like to illustrate a few of the other crops that are most visible at this time of year.
Halloween is a popular event, and the pumpkin plays an important role in both Halloween and Thanksgiving Day rituals. Here, a farmer has arranged pumpkins and other gourds to attract customers to a roadside stand. |
