They are cherry blossoms at the former tuberculosis sanatorium in Nagano Prefecture. Golden Week is the crispiest season of the year in Nagano as cherry blossoms and the snow on tops of the mountains match up well. The sanatorium opened in 1926 and is famous as many celebrated bookmen spent a long time here under medical treatment. Nowadays, tuberculosis is curable thanks to DPT vaccine and the sanatorium was changed to the general hospital. The sanatorium took pneumothrax treatment that is currently thought to be unscientific. My heart is filled with deep emotion as I imagine the hospitalized patients feeling the same when they saw this beautiful scenery in those days.
