March 4, 2001 Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture "News of Sakura"

2 p.m. The weather improved in the afternoon. Atami-zakura (late-blooming cherry blossoms) in front of the Kinomiya Station has finally been at their best. Pink flowers look like as if they are red at a distance. I successfully could take this picture under the fair sky. In Atami, various flowers begin to bloom early in February. Though Izu is famous for Kawazu-zakura, they begin to bloom in Atami earlier than in Izu.
