Cherry blossoms at Shibumi elementary school.

Shibumi elementary school locates in the center of the town. This Yoshino cherry tree has memories for me as it was planted when we built the school in 1985 and I was in charge of its planning. It has grown with its circumference 60cm. This year the snow peaked on March 10, 20 days later than usual (usually it is in the last ten days of February). It holds up the thawing, as well as the flowering of the cherry trees. They forecasted the day of the flowering to April 19, and cherry blossoms got at their best on April 23. It is inevitable for a heavy snowfall area to be eaten up the buds by bullfinches when it has much snow. We have a good exception this year!
