anx From April 27 to April 28, 1999. Rose-bud cherry trees in my home in Fukushima City in Fukushima Prefecture.

It is more than ten years ago that I planted a rose-bud cherry as a cutting. This year, the tree exploded full of flowers. The other day, a man passing by on the street called to me. "There are so many flowers that it looks to me like the tree feels heavy." he said. It is a rose-bud cherry tree that blooms large double flowers but I don't know its official name. Every spring, this tree vies with the 'yabutsubaki' or common camellia to become the first flower to bloom in our house and proclaim the coming of Spring. After this cherry blooms, the 'doudan tsutsuji' (Enkianthus perulatus) an azalea family of flowers. Sparrows seem to be fond of this tree and gather on it the year round.
