The Philosopher's Path is a two kilometer pathway from "Ginkakuji" or the Temple of the Silver Pavilion, to Nyakuooji shrine. It is said that this name was given because a philosopher, Kitaro Nishida, was fond of walking here. The row of cherry trees along the canal are "Somei-yoshino", and "Ooshima-sakura" which has rather large white petals. The path is a popular spot for tourists and was alive with people, like a traffic jam on this day. Along the pathway, there are Japanese pastry shops with refined tea ceremony rooms, and craft shops. Many people drop by them during their strolls.
