Hirano Shrine. Hirano Shrine is located near "Kinkakuji", the Golden Pavilion and is an old shrine which was moved to Heian, present day Kyoto, when the capital was moved there from Yamato or present day Nara. The splendid main shrine, Hiyoku-zukuri, is believed to have been built during the Kanei period (1624-1644). On its grounds are 500 cherry trees and some 40 varieties. From the end of March to late April, you can enjoy a variety of cherry blossoms, and the trees are lit up from sunset till 11PM.
