November 28, 1999. The Umegase Gorge. Chiba Prefecture. |
|
| The Umegase Gorge, said to be one of the latest places to have the trees tinged in the Kanto region, was created by the erosion of the Umegase River which is a tributary of the Yoro River. Vertical cliffs about 30 -50m high are forming a deep gorge. The cliffs are made of the Umegase Fault. The fault of these eroded cliffs, made of the sand from sea and mud piling up one after the other some 800,000 years ago, is a beautiful and spectacular sight. The contrast with the stream is just amazing. |
