An abundant flow of the Chikugo River and the high ceiling of the Kora... Together with the river, Mt. Kora is the symbol of Kurume, people's city of water and greens, and also appears in one of the school songs in the city. The Kurume Forest Azalea Park, where I have chosen for my shoots, was constructed during 1967-1970 as a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Meiji period, and of Kurume azalea to be chosen as the 'tree of the prefecture'. Later, the park was expanded to 60,000m2 and 61,000 azalea trees were planted as a part of the prefecture project (1978-1980) and the city planning project (1984-1986). Because of its historic sites and the mountain paths, many people visit here for picnicking throughout the year.
