October 19, 1999. Oodake, Mt. Hakkoda. Its first snow and 'kouyou'.

A picture of Oodake (1584m), the main peak, taken from Hakkoda Hotel. The first snowfall was recorded on the 17th, and although most of the snow has melted, it showed us a beautiful sight of 'kouyou' surrounded by white snow. The ones with reddish brown leaves and a white trunk are birch. Together with the yellow beech leaves, red maples and green Chishima bamboo, they are decorating Japanese autumn beautifully.
