March 11, 2000. Frothed Glass artist, Seikichi Inamine. Yomitanson, Okinawa Prefecture.

Frothed Glass artist Seikichi Inamine, the scene of the master craftsman working. The atmosphere was tense and staff members were nervous. He blows "vidro", glass was used to be called so in Japan. It is said that someone started glass art by using coke bottles that American armies damped. Seikichi creates new kind of glass, coral glass, quicksand glass and so on; there are piles of coke bottles around his house, which is in a pine grove. He is a very gentle "uchinanchu"(Okinawa dialect, means native Okinawan) after finishing his work. Why don't you drop and visit his work place and "untakuhantaku"(means to chat)?

He puts glass into the kiln repeatedly to heat it up for each process as glass congeals when it is cooled.

He makes an arrangement for the new works with his successor, his son. Coke bottles can be seen dimly behind him.

Everyone is soaking wet as they run around while working. The atmosphere is tense.

A scene when he is taking a break, his calm smile returns. Many young people come to start working at his place from all over Japan thinking that it is worth devoting their lives. Creating works is wonderful job, which also gives us pleasure. I saw various young people whom Mr. Inamine trains to be artists.
