January 15, 2000. "old" becoming of age day's meeting Ogunimachi, Niigata
prefecture.
From this year, January 15th became no longer a holiday. Normally in this day, people were looking forward to spend their time by doing things like "Kagomori-ana"(a dialect of this town it's called "Kamakura" in major places. It means a hut made of snow), "Dondo-yaki", "Tori-oi", which is like a small "New Year's ceremony". For the people who live in countryside, it's a real shame that January 15th is not a holiday anymore. Somehow this day is also a day for making buckwheat vermicelli in my town. Then we eat the buckwheat vermicelli with much gusto and decide the summary for the "Spring Festival" which will be held in middle of April. |
