November 21, 1999. The J Cup Family Tug of War Competition. From Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture.

On the 21st of November 1999, the J Cup Family Tug of War Competition took place at the Region Plaza Joetsu. A team is organized from each region, and consists of fixed numbers of men, women and children. This was the 17th competition (5th since it was named the 'J Cup'), and 44 teams participated altogether. 8 teams which won the preliminary matches competed in the tournament of the final matches. Consequently, the defending champion lost to a region which has never won the game before. After the preliminary matches, there was a competition for long rope jumping for ten people as a recreation, which was won by a team that jumped 96 times in 2 minutes. Also after the final matches, there was a demonstration of and teaching for the Double Dutch (jumping in two ropes at one time) by a team called 'Over Confidence' as an attraction. The kids got used to it soon and were happily jumping in the ropes. Our team, No.2 Minamimotocho, lost two of the preliminary matches for the tug of war and was the 41st in rope jumping having jumped 24 times. Whichever, there's a lot of need to practice for winning.

The Double Dutch. A speedy demonstration. It is also difficult to handle the ropes.
