Salmons go up the Chiyoda weir. Obihiro City in Hokkaido Prefecture.

Chiyoda weir, built on the Tokachi river, is close to the Tokachi river hot spring which takes approximately 20 minutes by car to the east of Obihiro city. Salmons are caught at the 2 storey weir of which the size is 169m in width and 7m in height. The salmon fry which have been released return in autumn, and leap around in the weir. Between the beginning of September and the mid-November, drift-net salmon fishing can be seen here. At the river bank, there appears a line of shops and restaurants which serve 'fish roe bowl' and 'autumn-mackerel (meaning salmon) hot pot'. This year, unfortunately, the number of salmon was so little that the fish leaping around are rarely seen and there was no fishing taking place either.

The weir is built into 2 levels so that the salmon cannot ascend.
