The tasar class yacht international championships took place on Lake Hamana, Shizuoka Prefecture.

For eight days from September 19 to 26, an international tasar class yacht tournament, the "1999 Tasar International Championship" was held at Lake Hamana. Seventy-five yachts from Australia, Canada, America, England, Netherlands, and Japan participated in this tournament. During the tournament, nearly 30 overseas representative yacht men and their families stayed at the Tokyu Resort Town Hamanako Hotel where I work. The hotel staff was in an uproar trying to entertain in an unaccustomed English language.

From the opening to the 23rd, cloudy days prevailed and there was the possibility of a typhoon approaching. Luckily, on the 24th, the typhoon passed by on the Sea of Japan side. On the next day, the 25th, it was completely the opposite and was a nice sunny and windy day for racing.
